I am writing to confirm that the Foreign and Commonwealth Office has now completed its 
search for the information which you requested on 6 August 2008. In that request, you asked 
us for a copy of the Declaration made on 31 December 1982 on the definition of the term 
'nationals'? 
 
I can confirm the Foreign and Commonwealth Office does hold the information you 
requested.   
 
The declaration in question was published as a Command Paper in the Treaty Series in 
1983 (reference TS No 67 1983 Command 9062), entitled "Note from the Government of the 
United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Government of the Italian 
Republic concerning a Declaration by the Government of the United Kingdom of Great 
Britain and Northern Ireland replacing the Declaration on the Definition of the Term 
"Nationals" made at the time of signature of the Treaty of Accession of 22 January 1972 by 
the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the European Communities.
