REQUEST FOR INFORMATION |

THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 |
|
Dear Ms Berlow, |
|
Further to your request regarding home education and the further details required around the 4 cases where we have been unable to make contact with the families concerned.
I have received the following information from the Departments concerned detailing the specific circumstances in each case:
1) No longer of compulsory school age, brought to the attention of Locality teams because mum was requesting a return to mainstream school. Difficulties arose as this was mid way through year 11.
2) Attempts to make contact through home visits. Family have moved with no forwarding address. Investigated through `remove no trace' protocol (This Protocol ensures that every avenue has been investigated to trace before passing on to the Children Missing Education officer and recorded on the CME database). Entered on the CME database.
3) Traveller family. Awaiting return to Local Authority.
4) Parent refusing to cooperate with services. Home visits made. Access refused. Case being actioned through Child in Need meetings. If non cooperation continues initial assessment will be initiated.
I hope this provides sufficient clarification for your purposes. Please accept our apologies for the delay in responding to your requests for clarification. This was due to staff holidays. The initial request for clarification had been forwarded to appropriate staff involved in the process, but no response had been received from them before going on leave. As your second request for clarification was sent directly to my e-mail account rather than the central FOI inbox, nobody else would have picked this up in my absence, although you should have received an `out of office' notification pointing you in the direction of Lissa Langhorn for any urgent issues. However, as per your latest e-mail this issue has been forwarded to Terry Walsh, the Head of Service for his investigation and he will write out under separate cover.
