Dear Mr Tweedy

Freedom of Information Act 2000: Request for information

Thank you for your request for information dated 04 August 2009 relating to FOI/4187. You have requested the following information:

1A) Please define what Westminster City Council consider as a motorcycle parking space, including measurements and dimensions.

2A) Please define what Westminster City Council define as a motorcycle parking bay, again with measurements and dimensions.

3) Provide the dimensions of all motorcycle parking bays that are charged in Westminster?

In response to your request, I can advise you of the following:

1 & 2) A motorcycle parking space is an area within a parking bay, which is considered to be approximately 0.8 Meters by 1.86 Meters. This space may be parallel to, or at an angle up to, 90° from the kerb, and is not usually individually delineated.

A motorcycle-parking bay is an area of the carriageway dedicated for the use of single or multiple motorcycles, depending on the actual bay size.

When motorcycle bays are installed, Westminster does a straight conversion from what was there originally. For instance if a visitors bay is converted to a motorcycle bay, it is governed by the width and length of the original visitor bay.

3.) With regards to the third question which you raise, I can advise that this information is publicly available and can be obtained from West One at the following address:

59 Buckingham Gate

SW1E 6AJ

In accordance with the City Council's publication scheme, this letter constitutes a refusal notice under Section 17 of the Freedom of Information Act. An exemption under Section 21 of the Act has also been applied, as the information requested is already accessible by alternative means.

If you are not satisfied with this response please set out your reasons in writing and send to:
