Referrals & Advice Team Manager Interview

Monday, 20th July 2009

In-Tray Exercise (20 minutes)

You have returned to work as the Referral & Advice Team Manager following 2 weeks annual leave and have been left the following information by your Deputy Team Manager who is at a meeting outside the office until lunchtime.

List in order of priority (1-8) how you plan addressing these tasks, giving your reasons.

Hello manager,

I am sorry I cannot be there to welcome you back, but I should be in the office later in the afternoon as I was not feeling very well and have a GP appointment. However I just wanted to bring to your attention the following issues that need your urgent attention:

  1. A member of the team has a complaint and wants to speak to you urgently;

  1. There is an outstanding member's enquiry about a housing case which I have drafted a response (see your emails) but I need you to check over;

  1. I have forwarded you a couple of cases (see your ICS tray) as I am concerned that the specialist social worker failed to follow child protection procedures.

  1. A member of the team went off sick on Friday and they are due to be on duty tomorrow;

  1. Operational Manager wants housing protocol document to be sent to her by 11am today (I think the draft is still in your tray);

  1. Head of Service warned us on Friday that it is likely that OFSTED inspectors will be doing an unannounced inspection;

  1. The computers were down on Friday and we haven't been able to progress any work on ICS;

  1. You have been invited to attend an urgent CiN Operations Managers Meeting at 2pm regarding Area Children & Young People's Partnerships.

See you later,

DTM
