Dear Ms Quinn
FOI request regarding Social Worker Post
I am responding to your enquiry regarding the recruitment process for the Social Worker posts recently advertised with a closing date of the 25th June 2009.
I will respond to each of your points in turn:-
We received 19 applications
5 applicants were shortlisted
The questions used by the Panel were as follows:-
Why are you applying for this position with Newcastle and what skills and experience do you bring to the role?
Can you describe a piece of work that you have undertaken where there was a successful outcome and one where there was not. What have you learned from these experiences?
How would you attempt to meet the needs of an unaccompanied asylum seeker? What issues do you need to take into consideration?
All Local Authorities are currently preparing for inspections. If you were an inspector what would an excellent Local Authority look like to you?
What do you think the role of supervision is within social work practice and what do you expect from your supervisor? How would you participate in a supervision session?
Retention of experienced staff is a difficulty for many Local Authority agencies. What qualities or strategies do you have that would make you resilient to the stresses of the job?
I enclose a copy of the template used by the Panel to record and evaluate responses.
