Thank you for your enquiry dated 3rd August 2008 for information under the Freedom 
of Information (FoI) Act 2000, which we received on 4th August 2008. 
 
You asked for: 
 
… income tax on residents of the Western Isles: the amount of income tax 
collected per income tax bracket and the amount of people in each bracket that 
were taxed on the islands … 

 
HM Treasury does not hold any information in relation to your request.  However, 
HM Revenue and Customs have tables that have information on the income, tax 
liabilities and numbers of taxpayers by borough, district or unitary authority, and 
which is included in the link below.  The Western Isles unitary council is known as 
‘Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’ in table 3.14.  HM Revenue and Customs also have 
similar information for each UK parliamentary constituency.  The constituency 
covering the Western Isles is known as ‘Na h-Eileanan an Iar’ and can be found in 
table 3.15.  I have included a link to these tables below.  I hope that you find this 
information useful.
