Dear Mr Havelock
Re: FOI Requests: Income and Expenditure for Fixed Penalties
The application that was received by the Council on 04 August 2008 has now been considered and this letter is a full response to that application. (I apologise that there has been a delay in supplying the information).
The Council does hold the information that you have requested and answers to your questions that the Council holds which are relevant to your application are enclosed with this letter.
Please supply a year on year account, for years 2001 to 2008 inclusive, regarding how much income was derived from fixed penalties relating to dog fouling and litter offences received by the Department of Development. How this income was spent i.e. on what was the money spent (training, equipment, advertising etc) and what happened to any residual balance left over at the end of each budget year.
Dog Fouling:
01/02 - no records
02/03 - 62 fixed penalties = £3100.00 gross income
03/04 - 40 fixed penalties = £2000.00 gross income
04/05 - 28 fixed penalties = £1400.00 gross income
05/06 - 31 fixed penalties = £1550.00 gross income
06/07 - 46 fixed penalties = £2300.00 gross income
07/08 - 30 fixed penalties = £1500.00 gross income
Littering:
We didn't serve any FPNs prior to 2005.
2005: 116 FPNs generating a total gross income of £5,800 but with costs of £3,828 = £1,972 net
2006: 105 FPNs generating a total gross income of £5,200 but with costs of £3,465 = £1,735 net
2007: 6 FPNs generating a total gross income of £300 but with costs of £198 = £102 net
Since 2005, some of the money collected from FPN's has been spent on CCTV equipment and staff attending training. Any residual budget left over is taken back into central funds.
