Dear Mr Walker
Request for Information - RFI 1136
I write following my acknowledgement of your request on 30 July 2009.

Please find our response below:

1. The names and ranks/grades of all employees in your organisation who are Common
Purpose 'graduates'.

The names and job titles of the attendees and ‘graduates’ have been withheld due to Section
40(2) of the Freedom of Information Act, which states that personal information should be
withheld if its disclosure would breach any of the eight Data Protection Principles defined by the
Data Protection Act.

•  The disclosure of this personal information would breach the First Data Protection Principle
because the individuals in question would not expect their personal information to be made
publicly available.

•  Such a disclosure would therefore be unlawful, due to a breach of the confidentiality
expected between employee and employer, and unfair, as the individual does not expect
their personal information to be released. This would therefore be a breach of the first Data
Protection Principle, which states that personal information shall be processed fairly and
lawfully.

2. The total expenditure by your organisation on Common Purpose courses for each of
the years 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002,2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009
