Mr D E Young made this Freedom of Information request to Ministry of Defence
Ministry of Defence did not have the information requested.
From: Mr D E Young
26 July 2010
Dear Ministry of Defence,
Between 1959 and 1963, airmen from 150(SM) Squadron, then based at
RAF Carnaby in Yorkshire, were among a number of RAF crews assigned
to training in the USA, culminating in the operational training
launch of RAF Thor missiles from Vandenberg AFB, California.
Please provide whatever images and details you are able to in
relation to any of these these launches, and in particular to those
of the missile with serial number 39.
I understand that an official documentary film was made of the
launch, and would be particularly interested to know if that film
still exists, and if it may be possible to obtain a copy, or to
arrange a viewing.
Yours faithfully,
M D E Young

Dear Ministry of Defence,
On 26 July 2010, I requested information pertaining to 150(SM)
Squadron RAF, and in particular the test launches of their Thor
missiles from Vandenberg, California.
I have so far not received any acknowledgement of this request.
Please could you confirm that my request has been received?
I do appreciate that, given the time since the events I'm looking
into, research may take some time, but an update as to your
progress to date would be most welcome.
Yours faithfully,
M D E Young

Dear Mr Burrows, DMC-Parliamentary Business (MULTIUSER),
Many thanks for your response to my enquiry regarding 150(SM) Sqn.
Thor Missile Launches.
I must admit to being somewhat surprised that there is nothing on
this matter available to the MOD. I will, however, follow up my
research through the IWM, as you have suggested, and also through
USAF records, which may be more complete.
Yours sincerely,
M D E Young
