Re: FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 - Request Reference 4117 regarding street licenses in Westminster
I write in response to your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 received on the 22nd July 2009.
The cost of street trading licences and Pavement café licences in Westminster Borough.
Attached you find the lists of fees for street trading and tables & chairs licenses in Westminster.
The numbers of street trading and café pavement licences issued in the last year accounted for, and the total income generated by that.
Westminster City Council issued in the last financial year 2008/09 (1. April 2008 - 31. March 2009):
71 permanent Street Trading licenses
57 casual Street Trading licenses
507 Tables & Chairs licenses (100 new, 407 renewals and variations)
The income received for the licenses issued in 2008/09 was the following:
£53,000 for permanent Street Trading licences
£76,302 for casual Street Trading licenses
£671,300 for Tables & Chairs licenses
The number of illegal street traders prosecuted, and the cost of doing so, or any money retrieved by doing so.
The figures below relate to the last financial year 2008/09:
A total of 357 traders were taken to court.
We requested costs of £97,342.47.
We were awarded costs of £70,820.02.
Fines totalling £60,137.66 were made by the court.
The annual overheads, such as staff costs, printing etc, of producing and enforcing street trading or pavement café licences.
