The Department's general policy is to refuse requests that exceed this limit. The most likely exception to this rule would be where we decide the requested information should be published because it is of interest to the wider public, in which case we should not charge the original applicant.

The Department's general policy is not to charge for such requests. In the exceptional cases where it is agreed to depart from this, fees should be charged only if it is economic to do so. Bear in mind that you can only charge for disbursements and the cost of raising an invoice is £35 alone.

 Estimate Actual Difference
Once you have determined that the request will cost more than £600 to answer (using table A) and it has been agreed that the information should be provided for a fee, you can use this table to estimate the maximum amount that can be charged. The maximum charge can consist of the costs from table A, disbursements, and the cost of the time spent on disbursement-related activities. This table can also be used to record the actual time spent and costs incurred in dealing with the request, and any difference between that and the estimate. If the actual cost is less, you must refund the difference to the applicant.HoursHoursHours
