Dear Mr Morrison-Bates
Freedom of Information Request F2009-158
Thank you for your Freedom of Information request dated 12 July. You asked for the exact amount (in GBP) that was made payable to the Nation of Afghanistan in foreign aid during 2008.
Please note that we have interpreted your question as meaning all UK Government spending on international development in Afghanistan.
While DFID
is responsible for most of this spending, we also draw together and publish information from other UK government departments and agencies involved. We do this on the basis of financial rather than calendar years and as we are still gathering this information for 2008-09 we cannot answer your precise question. I have, however, set out some relevant information for 2007-08 in the following table.
Full details for 2008-09 will be published in our annual statistical report called `Statistics on International Development' which will be available our website (www.dfid.gov.uk) in the autumn.

£ 34,460,000
