Description:
This small Vale of Glamorgan wetland supports a sequence of habitats, ranging from open water and reed swamp through acid bog to heath, that are of an extremely limited distribution in South Glamorgan. The site is of special interest as the only locality in Glamorgan for Pillwort Pilularia globulifera. This rare fern is a species that has declined considerably in Britain with the filling of ponds and drainage of wetlands. It is threatened in Europe as a whole and the British population is therefore of some significance.
