Dear Ms.Daley,

Brief Subject Description

Home Educated Children

Thank you for your recent `Freedom of Information' (FoI) enquiry. I am pleased to be able to provide you with the following information.

In your enquiry, you asked for the …

1. Number of electively home educated children known to your LA.

There are currently 52 children resident in Islington who are being home educated. This includes 9 year eleven pupils who are now over statutory school age.

Please be aware that this number changes frequently as children return to school or are withdrawn.

2. Number of electively home educated children who have a care plan in place due to concerns of abuse.

None.

3. Total number of all children in your LA

There are 40,000 children and young people aged 0-19 living in Islington. The statutory school-aged population (5-15) is 20,800.

4. Total number of children who have a care plan in place due to concerns of abuse.

In responding to this question, it has been assumed that `care plans' refer to what we term `protection plans.' Currently, 139 children have protection plans in place.

I trust that the information above is sufficient to meet your requirements. Should any clarification of this information be required, please contact the officer whose name and details appear at the head of this response.

Should any fresh question(s) arise as a result of your enquiry, however, this/these will need to be addressed via a new FoI enquiry at [Islington Borough Council request email]

Finally, please see the separate sheet which provides information about copyright, and potential re-use of information provided under the FoI legislation.

Yours sincerely,
