Freedom of Information request - Policy on Collection of Council Tax Arrears.

Further to your request for information on Council tax arrears collection by this Council the answers to the questions asked are as follows:

This Council follows the statutory recovery procedures set out in the legislation. There is no policy document on Council tax arrears collection.

There were 145 accounts with an outstanding balance at the 31^st of March 2009 over £750.00 for the financial year commencing the 1^st April 2008.

We held Liability Orders for 50 of these accounts. 95 had been sent a bill but no recovery action taken as at the 31^st March 2009. There were 2 Attachment of Earnings Orders and no Attachment of Benefit Orders.

I cannot provide a break down between owner occupiers and tenants as the recovery software in use by this Council does not provide this option.

No Bankruptcy Petitions were applied for in 2008/2009.
