Dear Ms. Skyes,
Thank you for your e-mail dated 21st June 2009, in which you asked for the following information:
“Please advise which of the three services has more or fewer of this rank (Air Commodores, Commodores and Brigadiers) to active numbers. Please detail service by service and number by number”
I am treating this as a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. The total number of Brigadier, Commodore and Air commodore ranks (NATO rank OF-6) in the Armed Services at 1st April 2009 is:
Service |
Head Count (OF-6) |
Percentage1 |
Navy |
84P |
0.22P |
Army |
190P |
0.18P |
RAF |
90P |
0.21P |
Total |
360P |
|
Figures are for UK Regular Forces including all trained and untrained personnel. Gurkhas, Full Time Reserve personnel, and mobilised reservists are excluded.
1 Percentage of OF-6 is based on the total number of personnel in each service. Percentages are calculated from unrounded data.
P denotes provisional.
Figures less than 100 have been left unrounded so as not to obscure the data.
Due to rounding methods used, figures may not always equal the sum of the parts. When rounding to the nearest 10, numbers ending in 5 have been rounded to the nearest multiple of 20 to prevent systematic bias.
Table 2 of the Tri Service Publication (TSP) 9 - UK Regular Forces Rank Structure shows the number of officers in each of the Services. TSP 9 is published on quarterly basis and the latest information as at 1st April 2009 can be found at www.dasa.mod.uk under the National statistics Publications heading.
I hope you find this helpful.
Yours sincerely,
Imran Khadim
