Request for information - Burning of overgrown shrubbery on flood bank at Wentworth Street Ilkeston

Thank you for your e-mail requesting information about the above.

In accordance with current environmental guidelines and best practice:-

 

1. We do at times burn vegetation at sites, however this is not the case for all vegetation.

2. We have burnt vegetation at this site, only on one day, in February. The vegetation burnt was Japanese Knotweed, where it is best practice to do so as this is an aggressive invasive species. However this would not create black smoke when burnt.

3. The hierarchy of options for cut vegetation (dependant on site and volume) is to:

 

Removal of vegetation is a last option as we try to minimise our carbon footprint and waste streams.
