Julie Hitchcock attended a Government Department meeting on 18 May 2009 with
Liverpool City Council to discuss their second phase of the Multi-Area Agreement
(MAA).
Julie Hitchcock conveyed the following messages to Liverpool City Council:-
One of the asks of Government within Liverpool’s MAA is a long-term relationship
with relevant departments to help them develop their plans for a low carbon
economy, and they are asking for a commitment to quarterly meetings with the
relevant departments to help them develop their low carbon strategy. Julie
confirmed that Defra would like to be party to an ongoing relationship with Liverpool
on this and said that, from Defra’s point of view, carbon is not the only issue and that
the wider resource efficiency agenda should also form part of their planning. They
were content to consider that.
Julie also suggested that, as well as embedding climate change in Liverpool’s growth
plans, they should also be thinking about adaptation to climate change, and
Liverpool appeared to be receptive to amending their ask to reflect that.
