2009/370 - Crime Statistics - Convicted Sex Offenders |
|||
In reply to your recent request for information;
“I would like to know if there are any convicted peodophiles in the
Anglesey area.
I understand that naming convicted peodophiles is excempt under the
data protection act, therefore i am not looking for names or
addresses but areas in Anglesey which the police know and are
monitoring these peodophiles.
I am just a concerned parent and the summer holidays are closing
in.”
North Wales Police can provide the following response. The term “paedophile” is not a term in formal use by the Police Service in relation to the monitoring and registration of sex offenders. “Sex Offenders” covers all persons who commit certain offences under sexual offence legislation which upon conviction results in them being required to comply with the registration requirements. Offenders on the register are not differentiated by offence but are categorised by risk. It is the risk they pose to the public that dictates their level of monitoring and management.
The current figures from ViSOR (the Dangerous Persons Database) for the number of registered sex offenders living in North Wales Police's Western Divisional area is 135, of which 30 are currently in custody. The Division is split into 5 Districts; Anglesey, Bangor, Caernarfon, Pwllheli, and Meirionnydd.
