
Declaration of Conflict of Interest |
Current County Council policy requires applicants and existing employees to ensure that they inform the relevant Service Area of the Council of any conflict of interest. This includes employees considering engaging in any other work or business which might relate to their duties as a Council employee, declaring any interest they, their partner/spouse or close relative have in a private enterprise or additional work. Examples of private enterprise/additional work include:
A contract of employment with another Service Area/Unit (including Relief) which may conflict with the main employment, or be in excess of 37 hours per week
Owning/running or involvement in a private care establishment
Providing private counselling services
Providing Home Carer services for clients
Training/consultancy services
We would also expect applicants / employees to declare any interest they may have in tendering for a contract from the Service Area / Grouping.
This list is not an exhaustive list, but designed to give examples only.
If you feel that the above, or similar circumstances apply to you, it is essential that you declare this in the space provided below, so that all of the facts can be appropriately considered. If the Council considers that there is a conflict of interest as a result of the information disclosed, you will not be considered for employment. Similarly, if you fail to inform the Council of a possible conflict of interest this could result in your employment being terminated. Please read overleaf before signing below.

ACTION CHECKLIST
ALWAYS
Make sure you consult your Unit/Line Manager and inform them in writing if you are engaged in, or about to engage in, additional employment or business venture.
Make sure you do not risk any conflict of interest between your private employment/business interests (or those of your partner, family or friends) and your duties within the Council.
NEVER
Abuse your official position to obtain preferential rates for private deals or show favouritism in awarding contracts.
Allow a breach of confidence in connection with information of a commercial-in-confidence nature.
Ultimately, responsibility rests with each applicant / employee to advise of any potential or existing conflict of interest that may arise.
