PRE EMPLOYMENT CHECKS - PREVENTION OF ILLEGAL WORKING

The Asylum and Immigration Act 1996 requires employers to establish the eligibility of people to work in the United Kingdom. The invitation to interview letter sent to candidate's sets out the documentation that is required to be produced at interview. No candidate may start work before these checks have been completed.

The candidate needs to be able to produce:

  1. One of the following original documents which confirms their National Insurance Number:

- Income Tax Forms i.e. P45, P60 or National Insurance Card

- Pay advice slip

- DSS notification (or other Government Department)

  1. And also one of the following original documents:

    • Passport confirming British or EEA National or indicates right to live and work in the UK.

    • Birth certificate confirming birth in the UK or Republic of Ireland

    • Letter from Home Office confirming eligibility to work or a work permit

Copies should be taken of the original documentation at interview and signed by the manager to confirm their authenticity. The interview letter template requests that candidates bring their documentation to interview. However, if you prefer, these documents can be provided directly to Recruitment by the appointee either in person or by post following the provisional offer.
