The recruitment of care managers/social workers is managed in the same way as recruitment to any other vacancy and in accordance with the KCC recruitment strategy which sets out the following:

Personnel and Development will work closely with recruiting managers to achieve a fast, responsive service that meets their needs, ensuring that the applicant knows what is happening at each stage of the procedure.

How we shortlist for interview
The selection criteria must be focused on the skills, qualifications, knowledge and behaviours actually needed to perform in the job.
We will ensure:
Selection on merit, judged against fair and equitable selection criteria
Applicants considered against relevant, fair and consistent criteria, based on reasonable, objective job description and person specification requirements
Equality data is collectively logged and monitored by vacancy
Disabled applicants are guaranteed an interview when meeting the minimum criteria
Redeployees are given access to internal vacancies in line with KCC policy
Application sharing between business units - monitoring possible applicants for future vacancies
Assessment Techniques
In order to ensure we appoint the right people into the right posts, we need to use a range of techniques to compliment the interview process, testing only for essential requirements for the job.
Training
There are a range of training courses available to managers relating to recruitment and selection. As a standard Managers are provided with a 2 day recruitment/selection training programme and are supported throughout the recruitment process by a Recruitment Services Team.
Advertising
Vacancies are advertised as a minimum on the KCC web site www.kent.gov.uk Mangers may also choose to advertise in the local or national press, on other web sites or in other places if there is a business case for the expenditure.
