Dear Mr Doman,
Thank you for your e-mail of 26 June 2009 about the number of recordable offences in England and Wales.
Statutory Instruments (SIs) are a form of legislation which allows the provisions of an Act of Parliament to be subsequently brought into force or altered without Parliament having to pass a new Act. They are also referred to as secondary, delegated or subordinate legislation
A list of recordable offences in England and Wales are available on the SIs I provided in my previuos reply. For ease of reference I have provided these below with weblinks.
The National Police Records (Recordable Offences) Regulations 2000, (SI 1139/2000) (www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2000/20001139.htm) as amended by The National Police Records (Recordable Offences) (Amendment) Regulations 2003 (SI 2823/2003) (www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2003/20032823.htm), 2005 (SI 3106/2005) (www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2005/20053106.htm) and 2007 (SI 2121/2007) (www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2007/uksi_20072121_en_1). These regulations were made under s27 (4) of PACE.
Yours sincerely
