Dear Mr Carruthers,

Thank you for your request of the 14th June for information about the Review of Redress. Your request was received by myself in the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) on 15th June and has been considered under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

The Review of Redress - Getting it right, and righting the wrongs - was an independent review and presented its findings to DCLG on the 17th June. The information that you have requested in terms of the report and associated documentation is therefore already published and reasonably accessible to you. It may be obtained by accessing DCLG's website at http://www.communities.gov.uk/communities/communityempowerment/communitiesincontrol/redressreview/ and following the links to the Report and Practitioner's Toolkit. In these circumstances, this information is exempt under section 21 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and Communities and Local Government is not required to comply with your request. If you are for any reason unable to get access to it by the means described above, then you should contact us stating your reasons.

We have reviewed our files for the financial information you requested. The only payments made to the team engaged in the Review were for the services of a research assistant at a cost of £20, 771.78. Otherwise, only expenses for travel have been paid (for the Chair, Deputy Chair and the Chair's assistant) at a total payment of £2,327.35 at this time.

Communities and Local Government as an organisation aims to be as helpful as possible in the way it deals with requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the Environmental Information Regulations 2004. If, however, you are not satisfied with the way in which your request has been handled or the outcome, you may request an internal review within two calendar months of the date of this letter. Information about the Department's review procedures and how to apply for an internal review of your case is contained on the Department's website at www.communities.gov.uk/documents/corporate/pdf/514130.pdf. This also explains your right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision in the event that you remain dissatisfied following the authority's review.

Yours sincerely
