LONDON BOROUGH OF SUTTON
LIST OF DESIGNATED PUBLIC PLACES
TAKE NOTICE THAT in its continuing efforts to combat the levels of anti-social behaviour that have been linked to the consumption of alcohol in public places, the London Borough of Sutton in partnership with the Metropolitan Police and Safer Sutton Partnership service, are extending the areas covered by provisions of the Designated Public Places Order within the London Borough of Sutton. The aim of the extension is to further tackle the incidents of anti-social behaviour and public order associated with the consumption of alcohol.
Within these designated areas, the Police will have the power, where there is evidence of Anti-Social Behaviour, to require persons whom they suspect of consuming or intending to consume intoxicating alcohol, to either refrain from consuming alcohol or to surrender the intoxicating alcohol in their possession. The Police will also have the power to dispose of anything that has been surrendered to them.
Any person, who without reasonable excuse fails to comply with the Police requests, will commit an offence and on conviction shall be liable to a fine of up to £500.
It is important to note that the extension of this scheme is intended to tackle the problems that have been associated with alcohol linked to anti-social behaviour within the borough and the Police will enforce its provisions accordingly.
It is anticipated that the Orders encompassing the newly designated areas, will come into operation in May 2006.
