
NOTICE OF INTENDED DESIGNATION OF PUBLIC PLACES FOR THE CONTROL OF ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION
After consultation with residents and businesses, London Borough of Merton has made an Order under s.13(2) of the Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001.
Under s.12 of that Act, a police officer may require a person in a designated public place
not to consume anything which is or appears to be alcohol, or
to surrender anything which is or which the police officer reasonably believes to be alcohol or a container of such alcohol (other than sealed container) to the police officer who may then dispose of the alcohol as they consider appropriate
if a person fails to comply with a police officer's requirement he/she commits an offence, and may be liable, upon conviction, to a fine up to £500
I would like to thank all residents and businesses who responded to the consultation process.
The Order will be implemented from 24th April 2006.

Alcohol Consumption in Designated Public Places Order 2006
The London Borough of Merton (in this Order called “the council”) hereby make the following Order under Section 13(2) of the said Act:
The land described in the Schedule below and/or shown on the map attached to this Order, being land in the area of the Council which is land to which the Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001 applies, is hereby designated for the purposes of that Act.
This Order may be cited as the Alcohol Consumption in Designated Public Places for the area described below Order No 001 2006 and shall come into force on 24th April 2006.

ROADS INCLUDED IN CONTROLLED DRINKING ZONE , WIMBLEDON, ARE AS FOLLOWS: The Broadway, Wimbledon Bridge, Victoria Crescent, Wimbledon Hill (to the junction with Mansell Road and Woodside), Hartfield Road (to the junction of Sir Cyril Black Way), Sir Cyril Black Way, St Georges Road, Worple Road (from junction of Wimbledon Hill to junction of Raymond Road), Queens Road (to the junction of Princes Road), Alexandra Road (to junction of entrance to Rail Car park), All footpaths, car parks, and pedestrian areas adjoining the above roads.
