Dear Ms Potter
Re: Freedom of Information request.
I write with reference to your email of June 8th, in which you make a request for information regarding
16 and 17 year old newly arrived Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASC) in October,
November and December 2008.
This request has been dealt with under the Freedom of Information Act and I can confirm that we do
hold the information requested.
There were 6 newly arrived 16/17 year olds who were accommodated under Section 20 of the Children
Act 1989 for the first time in the last quarter of 2008.
I have collated the information into a table as per that contained in your email.

Qu. G. The exact date any individual UASC was assessed as being 18 or more years of age.
You were contacted by Julia Terry in respect of this part of your request. Mrs Terry explained that
further clarification was needed in order to fulfil this part of your request. You responded on June 21st,
stating that you did not consider clarification to be necessary.
The Freedom of Information Act allows us to not comply with a request if we reasonably require more
information to clarify that request and we have communicated this to you.
Since you have declined to provided us with this clarification, we will not be able to fulfil this part of
your request, as outlined in s.1(3) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

If you are able to provide the requested clarification, please resubmit this part as a new request.
In your response please also state with a simple Yes or No, on whether or not you follow the
practice of not accommodating a UASC under Section 20 until you have assessed them as
being under the age of 18?
I can confirm that yes, Cambridgeshire County Council follows the stated practice.
I hope this information is helpful in answering your request, however if you are unhappy with the
service you have received in relation to your request and wish to make a complaint or request a review
of our decision, you should write to Helen Maneuf, Head of Audit, Scrutiny and Information
Governance, Box Res1405, Room 307, Shire Hall, Cambridge CB3 0AP within 40 days of the date of
this letter.
If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you have the right to apply directly to the
Information Commissioner for a decision. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at:
Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.
