I refer to your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 which was received on
5 June 2009. Attached is the formal response of Hampshire County Council (Notice of Determination) from which you will learn that we have responded to your request in full.
Your request and the corresponding answers are listed below:
Does your Local Authority presently employ Education Counsellors* (rather than buying in such a service from an external provider)?
The Children's Services Department employ counsellors who work in schools through the School Counselling Service. We understand that some schools employ counsellors directly; this data is not collected centrally and terms and conditions of employment are the responsibility of schools. The Behaviour Support Team employ three School Counsellors.
If the answer to Question 1 is yes, please state for each Education Counsellor employed by the Local Authority:
Whether they have been deemed to be eligible to join the Teachers Pension Scheme
School Counsellors employed through the School Counselling Service and Behaviour Support Team are not employed under teachers pay conditions and are not entitled to Teachers Pensions.
