Freedom of Information Act 2000: Business Rates 
 
Thank you for your Freedom of Information request dated 03 June 2009.  I am 
treating your request under the Act 2000. 
 
You asked for–   
 
•  … a list of the government departments which have held the responsibility for 
the supervision of the local authorities collection of NNDR (Business Rates) 
and the relevant dates of their involvement. 
The FoI Act establishes a legal process, and so we have to inform you that, as the 
information requested is already in the public domain, it is formally exempt from re-
issue under Section 21 of the Act. However, in order to be helpful we are providing 
the information below: 
•  Department of the Environment from 1988 to May 1997  
•  Department for the Environment, Transport and the Regions from May 1997 
to May 2002  
•  Office of the Deputy Prime Minister from May 2002 to May 2006 
•  Department for Communities and Local Government from May 2006
