Dear Mr Simpson,

Freedom of Information request: 0725-09

Thank you for your email to the Freedom of Information team in which you asked:

‘does the British Embassy in the United States of America hold any records of corrections to
American media organisations (Such as Fox News, CNN, CBS, ABC) use of the term
"Queen of England" when talking about Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.’

Section 14 (2) of the FOIA makes provisions for public authorities to refuse requests for
information that are identical or substantially similar to a previous request from the same
person.  We have concluded that your latest request is substantially similar to your previous
request reference 0438-09.  We are not, therefore, obliged under the Freedom of Information
Act to comply with your request.
Section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act makes provisions for public authorities to
refuse requests for information where the cost of dealing with them would exceed the
appropriate limit. The limit has been specified in the Freedom of Information and Data
Protection (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations 2004. For central government the
appropriate limit is set at £600. This represents the estimated cost of one or more persons
spending 3 ½ days working days in determining whether the Department holds the
information, and locating, retrieving and extracting it. Your request as presently formulated is
widely-framed and I estimate that it will take more than 3 ½ working days to locate, retrieve
and extract this information. In these circumstances we are not obliged under the Act to
comply with your request.
I also wish to advise you that The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) provides a legal right
to request any recorded information held by a public authority.  Please ensure that when you
are requesting information that you are as specific as possible, outlining the types of
documents you are seeking.  In order to keep a request under the cost limit it is also useful
to include a time frame as part of the search criteria, for example; 1 January 2009 to 10

September 09.  If you wish to submit a request for information please send your request to:
[email address]

If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your request and wish to
make a complaint or request an internal review, you should write to me FOI - Information
Rights Management Team. Please note any request for an internal review must be
submitted within 40 working days from the date our response was issued.
If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you may apply directly to the
Information Commissioner for a decision. The Information Commissioner can be contacted
at:

The Information Commissioner’s Office
Wycliffe House

Yours sincerely,
