Dear Mr Cross

Freedom of Information Act 2000

Thank you for your email of 20 July 2008 in which you ask:

“For the contact email address for each Independent Monitoring Board or if this is not possible a contact email address for every prison and immigration removal centre in England and Wales.”

Your request is being handled in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000 as a request for information.

You will wish to be aware that this is a repeat request by you that was responded to by the Deputy Head of the Independent Monitoring Boards Secretariat on 2 September 2008. The response is below and we have nothing further to add.

As Independent Monitoring Boards operate within the prisons in which they serve, they do not have individual email addresses. Any correspondence to the IMB should be addressed to the Board Chair at the relevant prison. Prisons do not have generic email addresses so correspondence should be by the postal system. You can get in touch via the IMP care of this link http://www.hmprisonservice.gov.uk/ I hope this will be useful to you.

As part of our obligations under the Freedom of Information Act, the Ministry of Justice has an independent review process. If an individual is dissatisfied with a response they may request an independent internal review of our handling of a request. A request for internal review should be made in writing in the next 40 working days quoting the above reference number and should be addressed to: Data Access and Compliance Unit, Information Directorate, Ministry of Justice, 1st Floor Zone C, 102 Petty France, London SW1H 9AJ.

During the independent review the department's handling of information request is reassessed by staff not involved in providing the original response. If the matter remains unresolved after an internal review there is a right to apply to the Information Commissioner for a decision as established by section 50 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. The address is: Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.

Yours sincerely,

Hazel Lansdale
