Dear Mr Charlesworth,

Thank you for your e-mail of 21/05/2009 in which you have stated that you were unable to obtain the information you requested from West Yorkshire Police Force.

I should explain that the Chief Constable is responsible for the policy, operational decisions and the day to day operational management of the force. Government Ministers have no role in these procedures and have no power to intervene in individual cases.

It is not clear whether you made your request for information under the Freedom of Information Act. If you have already written to the force and brought it to the attention of the Chief Constable and have not had a response then I suggest that you write the Police Authority who will look into your complaint.

The West Yorkshire Police Authority can be contacted at Ploughland House,
62 George Street
, Wakefield, WF1 1DL

If, however, you are dissatisfied with the decision not to supply information under the Freedom of Information Act, you may wish to appeal that decision to the Information Commissioner, who will decide whether the request for information has been dealt with in accordance with the requirements of the Act.

For information on how to make application to the Information Commissioner please visit their website at www.informationcommissioner.gov.uk. Alternatively, phone or write to:
