Adults rather than young people account for the majority of detected crime in both areas.
Four (a quarter) of the young offenders linked to crime within the area surrounding Encombe Place were shown to live within the area. Half live within 2 km. This therefore explains their criminality in the area, rather than attendance at the YOS office……..

Offender analysis
There were 115 individual offenders linked to crimes occurring within the 500-metre radius of Encombe Place.
16 (14%) were aged 18 years or under.
11 (9.6%) of these young offenders were known to have YOIS records (and therefore known to the YOS).
The 16 young offenders were linked to 17 crimes within the Encombe Place locus. This is only 13.5% of the total crime that had offenders linked to them. The remaining 86.5% of detected crime is linked to adult offenders. Therefore young offenders account for a relatively small proportion of the detected crime in the area.
It should also be noted that of the 16 young offenders linked to criminality in the area, four offenders actually lived within the area. Therefore the criminality that they are responsible for in the area is likely a function of the proximity of their residence, rather than their attendance at the YOS office.
The table shows the distance offenders live from the Encombe Place site (as the crow flies).

Nine of the 16 (56%) young offenders live within 2 km of the Encombe Place site. Although this figure is just over half, they account for 65% (13) of the detected crime in the area that were linked to young people. Under half of the adult offenders reside within 2 km of the site suggesting that most travel relatively long distances to commit crime in the area. The adult offenders do not attend the YOS office and so this suggests other factors facilitate the crime levels in the area (for example, a high density of parked cars, many in insecure locations, attracting offenders).
