Dear Mr Varley,

Internal Review under the Freedom of Information Act 2000

The Head of Corporate Information has asked her Internal Review Team to acknowledge your e-mail sent
from the whatdotheykow.com website on 18 June 2009 in which you asked for an internal review of your
request for information under the Freedom of Information Act dated 15 May 2009.   Your request related to
sexual orientation in the Armed Forces and the Civil Service.  Because your request was handled by two
different organisations within the Ministry of Defence it was given two reference numbers – they are:  18-05-
2009-100525-001 (to cover paragrph numbers 1 and 2 of your letter) and 18-05-2009-103727-002 (to cover
paragraph number 3)   You have received a reply to the latter but are awaiting a response to paragraph
numbers 1 and 2.  The Head of Corporate Information will examine the letter you have received and ensure
that you receive a response to your paragraphs numbered 1 and 2.

The Head of Corporate Information currently aims to complete her reviews within 40 working days of receipt of
the application.  Your request for an internal review was received on 18 June 2009 and so you should receive
a response from the Head of Corporate Information, with the results of her review, by 13 August 2009.

The review will involve a full, independent, reconsideration of the handling of the case.
