Dear Mr McKenzie,
FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: 165-09-264
I write in connection with your request for information received on 7th May 2009, which
we apologise for the delay in responding to you. For ease of reference I have
repeated your request below.
Q. A percentage of my Council Tax is paid to you for your services.
Please tell me what you have allocated from my Council Tax contribution in your
2009/2010 budget to cover pensions to your personnel.
Please also express this as a percentage not a value.
A. Budgeted Officers pension costs for 09/10 is £17,001k, for Staff is £8,094 so
£25,095k in total.
With a total (pre capping) gross budget of £217m, pensions thus account for 11.56%
of costs.
If we assume costs are spread evenly over income, then 11.56% of Council Tax
precept contribution to Surrey Police covers pension commitments.
Surrey Police provides you the right to request a re-examination of your case under its
review procedure. How to do this is set out in the attached Appeals Notice. Having
followed the full procedure, if you are still dissatisfied, then you have the right to direct
your comments to the Information Commissioner who will give your case
consideration.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your interest in Surrey Police.
Should you have any further enquiries concerning this matter, please write or contact
us on 01483 - 630007 quoting the reference number above.
Yours sincerely
Carolyn Mullen
