Dear Mr Allen

Freedom of information - car parking

I write in response to your email request of 5 May 2009 for information in relation to car parking within NHS Lothian

I have been provided with information to help answer your request by Ms Jane Campbell, Senior Logistics Manager, NHS Lothian.

  1. information regarding the costs of parking attendants (and any enforcement) throughout NHS Lothian.

It is not possible to separate out these figures from cost incurred in relation to all Logistics staffing costs for car parking, including the administration and management of visitors, assisted parking and staff parking. Additionally NHS Lothian support the Car Parking Strategy and Green Travel Policy by way of subsidies covering inter-site shuttle bus, the partial subsidy of a commercial service between St John's Hospital and the Royal Infirmary.

  1. The costs involved in implementing staff parking permits

Approximately £7000 is spent per annum on stickers and staff permits.

  1. Any revenues taken in fines or similar charges

NHS Lothian do not impose fines in relation to car parking.

None of the above covers the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with the exception of the administration of the staff permits, which is included. There is no information in relation to expenditure for the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh car park included in this response, as this is operated by a third party contractor. As per Section 17 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 formally I must inform you that NHS Lothian do not hold this information.

I hope this information helps with your request.

If you are unhappy with our response to your request, you do have the right to request us to review it. Your request should be made within 40 working days of receipt of this letter, and we will reply within 20 working days of receipt. If our decision is unchanged following a review and you remain dissatisfied with this, you then have the right to make a formal complaint to the Scottish Information Commissioner.

If you require a review of our decision to be carried out, please write to Mr I Whyte, FOI Reviewer at the address at the foot of this letter. The review will be undertaken by Mr Whyte as he was not involved in the original decision making process.

FOI responses (subject to redaction of personal information) may appear on NHS Lothian's Freedom of Information website at :- http://www.nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk/your_rights/foi/foi_09.asp.

Yours sincerely
