Dear Ms Lord
Request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000
Thank you for your email of 1st May 2009, in which you made a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the Act).
You requested:
The total number of nannies who have been accepted on the voluntary childcare register since 1st September 2008, and the number of those nannies that are located in the West Midlands.
We collect data about home childcarers. These data will cover `nannies'. A home childcarer is a person aged 18 or over who cares for the children (aged from birth to 17 years) in their own home; or for children of no more than two families, wholly or mainly at the home of one or both families at any one time, such as a nanny share. Please refer to the Ofsted Web site for further information about childcare provision types: http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/Ofsted-home/About-us/How-we-inspect.
Ofsted can only provide you with information about childcare provision for England. Information about childcare provision in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland can be obtained from Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Education in Scotland, Her Majesty's Inspectorate for Education and Training in Wales (Estyn) and the Education and Training Inspectorate in Northern Ireland.
Between 1st September 2008 and 31st March 2009, 2,729 home childcarers have registered and been accepted onto the voluntary childcare register (VCR) in England. Of these, 84 home childcarers have joined the VCR in the West Midlands government office region.
I hope that this information satisfies your request.
If you are unhappy with the handling of your request, you may seek an internal review by writing to:
