The provision is provided in partnership with teachers, youth workers, health
professionals and the voluntary organisations of the Derby Deaf Children's
Society and the Royal School for the Deaf Derby.
The provision includes:
 a multi-agency centre – The Early Years Centre for deaf children and
their families – supporting families from diagnosis until school entry.

communication
programmes
in the home at three levels.
ï‚· activities for families with deaf children aged 5 to 12 years old to provide
fun and communication learning for the whole family.
 weekly Youth Club for 11 – 19 year olds
ï‚· club activities for 13 to 19 years olds to develop independence in the
community
ï‚· funding and support for the running of a one week summer play scheme
for deaf children and their siblings
ï‚· funding and support for the running of a one week residential summer
holiday for deaf children
The Unit for Deaf People are currently planning service provision for a total of
259 deaf children and young people aged 0 to 17 years; 111 of these live in the
southern half of Derbyshire and 148 live in the City of Derby.
The exact number of children receiving a service at a specific time fluctuates
according to need and time of year.
