REQUEST FOR INFORMATION UNDER THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000

Thank you for your recent communication where you have requested specific information concerning dangerous dogs. This request is considered to come under the provisions of the `Freedom of Information Act 2000'.

Please find the information requested below.

1. 2 dogs were seized by the Council under Section One of the Dangerous Dogs Act from 2000 to 2008.

2. There were no prosecutions under Section One of the Dangerous Dogs Act in 2007 and 2008.

3. There have been no dogs seized under Section One of the Dangerous Dogs Act so far in 2009. Please note that Wawickshire Police may have additional figures as they deal with dangerous dogs in the main in Rugby.

4. There were no applications made to the Magistrates Court under Section 4b of the Dangerous Dogs Act in the last three years.

5. There are currently no dogs held by Rugby Borough Council under Section One of the Dangerous Dogs Act.

6. There have been no dogs, prohibited under the Dangerous Dogs Act - illegally owned pit bull terrier types, handed over by their owners to Rugby Borough Council .

7. Rugby Borough Council have idenfified the following number of stray dogs as `pit bull type': Neither of these dogs were destroyed.

2007 - 1

2008 - 1

2009 - none so far

  1. Training to identify prohibited types of dogs as defined by the Dangerous Dogs Act is provided by local vets.
