Dear Mr McMillan,
Freedom of Information Act 2000: IMF report
Thank you for your request dated 22 May. You asked, under the Freedom of
Information Act, for:
•
Details of any communications (ie emails, faxes, letters) between HM Treasury
and the IMF for the period including 20th, 21st and 22nd April 2009 specifically with
regards to the IMF report forecasting the cost of UK bank bailouts.
I can confirm that the Treasury holds information within the scope of your request.
We consider that this information engages the qualified exemption in section 27(1)(b)
which relates to information where disclosure would, or would be likely to, prejudice
relations between the United Kingdom and any international organisations or
international court. In this instance section 27 relates to relations with the IMF.
The FOI Act requires us to respond to requests promptly and, wherever possible, to
give a full response within 20 working days of receiving a request. Where a qualified
exemption applies to the information and the public interest test is engaged, the Act
allows the time for response to be longer than 20 working days, and a full response
must be provided within such time as is reasonable in all circumstances of the case.
In this case we expect to be in a position to respond by 12 June.
If you have any queries about this letter, please contact me. It will be helpful to us if
you remember to quote the reference number above in any future communications.
