SHWL
This is the Standard Head Water Level. It is the level of the crest of the weir. Local Head or Upstream water levels are measured with
reference to this datum. Head water levels above this datum are taken as positive, head water levels below this datum are taken as negative.
SHWL - ODN is the level of the crest of the weir with reference to the Ordnance Datum at Newlyn.
STWL
This is the Standard Tail Water Level. It is the level of the crest of the next weir down stream. It is the level the water would be if there was
no flow on the river. Waterways PSTN outstations are set up to report local Tail or Downstream levels with reference to this datum. STWL -
ODN is the level of the crest of the next weir down stream with reference to the Ordnance Datum at Newlyn.
Tail GPZ
This is the Tail Gauge Pile Zero. It is the level of the top of the sill of the down stream lock gate. It is of interest as it gives an indication of
the maximum draft of a vessel that can enter the lock. The radio system telemetry outstations are set up to report Tail or Downstream water
levels with refernce to this datum. Tail GPZ - ODN is the level of the top of the sill with reference to the Ordnance Datum at Newlyn.
Depth at STWL
This is the depth of water over the sill of the down stream lock gate in no flow conditions.
Drop at Standard
This is the difference between the Standard Head Water Level and the Standard Tail Water Level. It is the drop in water level across the lock
in zero flow conditions.
