FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: 224/09

I write in connection with your request for information, dated 20th April 2009, which was received by Durham Constabulary on that date. I note you seek access to the following information:

1) How many people were arrested by Durham constabulary for soliciting prostitutes in each month of 2008.

2) Of those arrested in each month the number who were:

a) released without charge

b) cautioned

c) charged

d) fined

e) If none of the above can be applied to each arrest I would like to know how the crime was dealt with.

3) I would also like to know how much money has been allocated to the force for the specific purpose of reducing prostitution.

I am required by the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to handle all requests in a manner that is blind as to the identity and motives of the requestor. Any information released as a response to a request is regarded as being published and therefore in the public domain without caveat.

Please note that Durham Constabulary's response to your request is unique and should not be used as a comparison with any other Force response you receive.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department, the Criminal Investigation Department and the Support Services

Department of Durham Constabulary.

In relation to question 1) How many people were arrested by Durham constabulary for soliciting prostitutes in each month of 2008.

and in relation to question 2) Of those arrested in each month the number who were:

a) released without charge

b) cautioned

c) charged

d) fined

e) If none of the above can be applied to each arrest I would like to know how the crime was dealt with.

I can confirm that there were no arrests made by Durham Constabulary officers during 2008 for offences relating to the soliciting of prostitutes.

3) I would also like to know how much money has been allocated to the force for the specific purpose of reducing prostitution.

I can also confirm that no money has been allocated to Durham Constabulary for the specific purpose of reducing prostitution.
