There is a separate list for the history of the Employment ministries.

On 6th July 1992 The DES lost its responsibilities for scientific research and became the Department for Education.

On 5th July 1995 The DE merged with part of the Department of Employment to become the Department for Education and Employment.

On 8th June 2001 the DfEE lost its responsibility for unemployment and became the Department for Education and Skills

On 28th June 2007 Prime Minister Gordon Brown's first cabinet reshuffle splits the DfES into the Department for Children, Schools and Families and the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills

Had been Minister of State at the Department of Employment before the merger.

Became PUSS at DfEE after being PUSS at Department of Employment from July 1994.

Promoted to Minister of State in July 1998 reshuffle.

Promoted to Minister of State in reshuffle following David Blunkett's resignation.
