Dear Mr Dewar

Request under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Thank you for your email received on 9 April 2009 requesting that the following information be provided to you:

“I would like to request information on Glasgow City Council's policy and process regarding 'New Media' sites such as Youtube and Twitter, specifically information concerning the amount of council-tax funds and employee time being spent on maintaining a council presence on these sites.”

The Council is treating your request as a request under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

The information which you have requested is below.

Glasgow City Council wishes to promote access to information about the services it provides. A number of outward-facing channels are used to do this. These include the Council's primary website and also by establishing a Council presence on social networking sites such as `YouTube' and `Twitter.'

There is no direct cost to the Council for establishing micro sites on `YouTube' and `Twitter' as these sites are free to join.

In terms of employee time spent creating the `YouTube' and `Twitter' sites, the Council estimates this as two hours in total. We estimate that a further hour is spent each month maintaining and updating content on these sites.

The Council accordingly feels that it has complied in full with your request. However, if you feel that this is not the case please contact the Customer Care Team at the number above.

Please note that the information provided in response to your request is, unless otherwise indicated, copyright © Glasgow City Council 2009. It is supplied to you in terms of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002. Any further use by you of this information must comply with the terms of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 as amended and/or the Copyright and Rights in

Databases Regulations 1997. In particular, any commercial use or re-use of the information provided requires the prior written consent of the Council.

Requests for such consent should be addressed to:
