Dear Mr Martin
FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST
I write with reference to your request for information received 16th April 2009. You asked for the following information:-
Could you please provide me with your policy on school staff who undertake or wish to undertake additional paid employment outside of their normal employment.
This 'paid employment' would include self employment that generates additional income for that person over and above their Sefton Borough Council salary.
For purposes of clarity I am concerned to know what process is required in order to identify and regulate staff who wish to take '2nd jobs' in addition to their 'normal' day-to-day employment
working within Sefton Borough Council schools.
Each individual governing body of a school is responsible for the monitoring of activities of staff within their school. There is nothing in the terms and conditions of teacher's jobs that stipulates that secondary employment must be declared. Governing Bodies have to make an individual assessment as to whether there is a conflict of interest or if the school is being brought into disrepute.
In terms of the working time directive it is for the school to monitor and ensure that employees are not working over 48 hours without signing the disclaimer form.
