FREEDOM OF INFORMATION (SCOTLAND) ACT 2002 - REQUEST FOR INFORMATION

With reference to your request for information, I have dealt with this in accordance with the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

You have requested the mileage rate paid to employees of the City of Edinburgh Council when using their own vehicles on Council business. You have also asked if they are made aware of the need to ensure they have appropriate insurance cover if using their vehicles on Council business.

Employees authorised to use their own transport on Council business will receive mileage allowance of 40p per mile for the first 10,000 miles and 25p per mile thereafter. These rates are based on Inland Revenue “Flat” Mileage Rates for approved business mileage.

Drivers will only be authorised where there is a genuine need for them to use their own vehicle on Council business and they provide proof of a valid driving licence. It is the Council policy that authorised drivers are informed of the need to notify their insurance company to ensure they are covered for business mileage.
