Dear Mr Starky,
Thank you for your e-mail of 1 April asking for information about the number of job vacancies that were currently advertised as of 1 April 2009, broken down between those advertised internally and those advertised externally. Your request has been dealt with as a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act.
This response covers Home Office headquarters, the UK Border Agency, the Identity and Passport Service, and the Criminal Records Bureau.
As of 1 April 2009:
242 vacancies were advertised internally (i.e. within the Civil Service)
47 vacancies were advertised externally (i.e. outside the Civil service).
If you are dissatisfied with this response you may request an independent internal review of our handling of your request by submitting your complaint within two months to the address below quoting reference 11591.
