Dear Mr Starky,

Thank you for your email of 1 April requesting, under the Freedom of Information Act, the number of job vacancies advertised within the Department on 1 April 2009 , broken down into those advertised internally and externally.  I have been asked to reply.

On 1 April 2009 , a total of 33 posts were advertised by the Department of Health.

11 posts were advertised internally for application by Department of Health employees alone.

11 posts were advertised across the Civil Service as a whole, to which other civil servants as well as Department of Health employees could apply.

11 posts were advertised externally, to which anyone could apply.  Three of these posts were advertised on the Civil Service online recruitment website at: beta.civilservice.gov.uk/jobs/index.aspx, and eight posts were advertised in the printed press.

I hope you find this reply helpful.

If you have any queries about this email, please contact me.  Please remember to quote the reference number above in any future communications.

If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the right to ask for an internal review.  Internal review requests should be submitted within two months of the date of receipt of the response to your original letter and should be addressed to :
