The Rabbinical Commission for the Licensing of Shochetim was established under the Slaughter Houses Act 1974. Schedule one provides for the shechita (slaughter) of poultry and animals by a shochet (slaughterer) licensed by the Commission.
Part IV of Schedule 12 to the The Welfare of Animals (Slaughter or Killing) Regulations 1995 defines the make up of the commission.[1]
The office of the Chief Rabbi is the permanent chairman of the Rabbinical Commission.
While this body is not formally subject to the FOI act we list it here as it has substantial public responsibilities.
