The Panel has designated as the supervisory authority to carry out certain regulatory functions in relation to takeovers pursuant to the Directive on Takeover Bids (2004/25/EC) (the “Directive”). The Panel's statutory functions are set out in and under Chapter 1 of Part 28 of the Companies Act 2006. This authority is not currently subject to the Freedom of Information Act 2000 but is included on this site due to its public responsibilities. On 7 January 2011 the Government announced a consultation on extending the scope of the Freedom of Information to cover additional bodies. This authority is referred to in the announcement.
